Hanging in Cusco (April 6 to 10)

Tonight is our last night in Cusco. The other families in our group have now all left but we added a couple of extra days to recover from the hike.
The morning after we returned to Cusco we visited two sites: Qorikancha and Cusco Cathedral.
Qorikancha is a Dominican church and convent built on top of (and partly out of) the central Incan religious centre in Cusco. The building retains bits of original Incan stonework with Spanish Colonial building on top.
Cusco Cathedral is a later structure but used masonry from surrounding Incan buildings. It is famous for a large crucifix of Jesus known as SeƱor Los Temblores or "Lord of the Earthquakes". Reputedly a procession with this crucifix helped stop a devastating earthquake. The Monday before Easter it is paraded around Cusco. The figure of Jesus wears an embroidered Incan style skirt and is regarded by some as a kind of updated version of an original Incan diety
Later, in the evening, we had our last meal as a group. The restaurant was a trendy Cusco spot with modern artwork and bathtub/fishbowl tables.
In the days since we have been exploring Cusco, catching up on laundry and planning our next stage of adventure.
Tomorrow we head to Puno and Lake Titicaca.
